European ScreeningPort’s mission is to provide the missing link in Europe between academic research and the Pharmaceutical industry. Biomedical research is focused on elucidating the fundamental processes involved in human health and disease. In the past, the best new ideas from academia have been pursued through spin-outs or in collaboration with the Pharmaceutical Industry. However, the currently predominant risk-averse approach by industry coupled with a refocusing of funding onto late stage programs present significant challenges to academic institutions. The lack of substantial financial resources or in-depth experience of drug discovery often prevents the further development of academic projects with great potential to create treatments for unmet medical needs. European ScreeningPort has the scientific know-how and technical facilities to help your organisation meet these challenges.

The inputs at European ScreeningPort are novel or under-exploited therapeutic targets with great potential, but which are unattractive to the Pharmaceutical Industry because they may lack either tractable lead series or supporting clinical Proof-of-Concept (PoC) data. Outputs range from tool compounds for mechanistic studies and PoC programs, through to high quality drug-like lead compounds suitable for progression to the pre-clinical candidates stage.

Our aim is to accelerate the translation of promising results generated in basic research on the causes of diseases into new therapeutics. European ScreeningPort is a service provider that enables academic research institutes to access its state-of-the-art technology platform, its extensive collection of compounds as well as its sample and data processing capabilities. At European ScreeningPort new therapeutic concepts developed in Academia can undergo the same standardised, efficient and cost-effective processes that have, until now, been available only to industry. Pharmaceutical and biotech companies, for their part, can benefit from the research results generated at European ScreeningPort and thus complement their own drug research.

The philosophy of European ScreeningPort is built on the knowledge that the requirements of academia are quite distinct from those of large Pharmaceutical companies.
